Isle of Skye 1 day tour
A full-day journey into the myths, landscapes and wild spirit of Scotland’s most iconic island.
Your adventure begins in Inverness, gateway to the Highlands, where Luke Skye-Walker sets the scene with stories, folklore and a curated soundtrack that connects you to the land around you. As we travel south along the shores of Loch Ness, you will meet the island’s famous Highland cows (hairy coos), feed them a few treats and capture the kind of photos that become treasured memories.
The road to Skye winds through ancient glens, battlefields and crofting communities shaped by centuries of history. A short stop at the iconic Eilean Donan Castle - featured in the film Highlander starring Sean Connery - offers a chance to take in one of Scotland’s most photographed landmarks before we continue “Over the Sea to Skye”, crossing the bridge that links the mainland to the island. During the spring and summer months, you may choose the quieter and more evocative route via the world’s only working turntable ferry, where seals often rest along the shoreline, just mention on booking if you’d like to take this route.
Welcome to the Isle of Skye
On arrival, Skye’s story truly begins. In Broadford you’ll visit a hidden spot tied to one of Luke’s tales, along with a taste of a local island favourite. From there the landscape opens dramatically as we reach Sligachan and its ancient stone bridge, steeped in legend. This is also where Luke takes his signature drone photo, framed by the towering Black Cuillin mountains – get ready to strike a pose here!
In Portree, the island’s colourful harbour town, you may relax with lunch or for the more adventurous, take a packed lunch and continue straight to the Old Man of Storr for the highlight of the day. This short but rewarding hike (rated easy to moderate) leads to one of the most extraordinary natural formations in all of Scotland. Standing beneath the jagged pinnacles of volcanic rock, it’s easy to feel as though you’ve stepped into an entirely different world.
The journey continues to Lealt Falls and Kilt Rock, a spectacular waterfall located between The Old Man of Storr and The Quiraing. It is made up of colourful layers of basalt rock columns, where the waterfall drops 90 metres onto the beach below. Sometimes on a wild day you can hear the cliffs whistle. Hold onto your hats!
As we make our way back to Inverness, Luke shares insights into Skye’s culture, walks, wildlife, accommodation and the island’s lesser-known corners. For guests eager to experience more of this incredible place, Luke’s 2 Day and 3 Day tours offer a deeper connection to Skye’s wilderness, its stories and its people.
This is a full day of landscapes, legends and discovery, shaped to give you an unforgettable introduction to the Isle of Skye. Lace up your boots, bring your camera and get ready for an adventure into one of Scotland’s most magical places.
